There is something so special about Maternity shoots. The quiet anticipation for what is to come, the excitement, the joy of a growing family. When there is already a little brother involved in the shoot, smiles are a little brighter, the session can be a slightly more chaotic but the giggles and laughter flowing through the air is beautiful.
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting South African friends of mine based in Godmanchester, England. W and J have built a beautiful life for themselves here in the UK and there not so little boy, G is just the sweetest.
We chose to capture their story in the open countryside fields. A place where they walk and run often and it was the perfect setting. The wide open space and farming fields fitted in beautifully with the boys' South African two tone (if you know, you know)
The late summer light, the wide open space, and the golden tones of the grass created a natural backdrop full of warmth and beauty.
What made the session even more meaningful was the small moments as a family. Having G there was special. He lovingly cuddled his parents, picked up mud clumps and watched dad through them in the air. he jumped through the fields and giggled as he was swung in the air so high that he looped in a full circle.
The small tender moments, the belly laughing fun, the running races with dad, cuddling moms belly, these make maternity photography so special.
For me, as a photographer, I love outdoor sessions and I often find them the most rewarding to capture. The Northern Ireland countryside is filled with breathtaking locations, rolling hills, rugged coastlines, forests and hidden trails. These all make beautiful backdrops for your story. Sessions like these allow families to relax, breathe and simply enjoy their time together. I let your family lead the session with small prompts to capture something that is uniquely you.
This shoot was a wonderful reminder of why I love maternity and family photography here in Northern Ireland. These fleeting moments of love, anticipation, and joy deserve to be remembered for years to come.
